One of the most frequently asked questions I get about cookie decorating is: "How exactly do I thin royal icing for flooding cookies?"
Here's a little how-to video that may help. Hopefully, as I get more familiar with this whole vlogging concept, the quality will improve (and I'll lose my nervousness)!
(You have NO idea how nervous I am to post this!)
More videos to come...and I have some very talented ladies joining me with more videos. Check out the sidebar! Recognize anyone?
{Thank you to my sister for loaning me her video camera...mine stinks, apparently! Anyone have a JVC Everio they'd like to trade for cookies? ;)}
Please stop by my main blog, Bake at 350, for more cookie inspiration (and other fattening stuff)!

What a great video! I don't even know what royal icing is or what you use it for but you did a great job on the video and if I had to do this, I'd now know how!
I'm so excited! Maybe I can learn how to make a edible looking cookie! I love this!!!

Oh this is fantastic! I've followed your blog for awhile and love all those pretty cookies you make. Great to see the how-to on video.
Would you possibly do a video on how you get all those great colors? I can't seem to get a real red no matter what I do. Thanks :)
Bridget, you look fabulous! And, you did an amazing job with the video very instructive, can't wait to learn more!
Great video, it really helps to see the consistency. I now know I was making my icing way too thin.
I love this! I love the name of this new blog too, and the faculty:) You're a natural in front of the camera; you look great!

You did FANTASTIC!!!! and the video is terrific VERY helpful!!!.....so I'm raising my hand with a question......
Do you put your food coloring in each little bowl and mix with the spatula? or mixer?
This is going to be SOO fun!!
You're adorable! And, this was so helpful! I'm very much a visual person, and the video lets me know exactly how thin that icing should be. Can't wait for more posts!

You did FANTASTIC!!! I love it all!
I love it!!! And you are everything I had imagined and more! Congrats on the new blog!
AWESOME video! I have been obsessed with your blog since just before Easter when I searched for decorating sugar cookies. Now I see that my royal icing was a bit thick for flooding but my two year old granddaughter didn't complain!lol Where do you get the squeeze bottles that you refered to in the video?
That was great!! You didn't seem nervous at all and you have a lovely voice. I can't wait to see more!
You are a lifesaver! :)
Great vlog! Yay University cookie.
Wow..really like your new blog! I am really looking forward to learning how to decorate cookies.
I'm pretty sure I can't EVEN begin to tell you how excited I am to see a VIDEO of what I've been working up the courage to attempt. I tried decorating cookies for my daughters bday and the icing portion was pretty much disastrous. Thank you for posting this! I'm excited to see what is to come!
Bridget, that was perfection! Informative, cute, succinct, and you gave me an opportunity to laugh out loud! Lovedi t!!
THIS is like a dream come true! Thanks, Bridget!!!!
By the way, you're a doll! You appeared so natural and fluent. Loved it.

Ummm hello gorgeous!! You looked great, don't be nervous, I can't wait to see more of these!
Wow, this is AWESOME!!! I always wanted to know how thin it needed to be in order to flood and now I know. THANK YOU!!!
This is SO helpful! I've always wanted to decorate with royal icing and have looked at a lot of photo tutorials, but the video is so much more informative! Looking very forward to whatever else you post! Would love to see the whole process from the beginning (i.e. making/cutting out the cookies, actually making the frosting before thinning it, and of course decorating).
Great idea to start this blog. I can't wait to see more videos. I use that same tupperware to mix my icing, it is the perfect size.
Bridget you didn't seem nervous at all. AT ALL. You covered it nicely my dear. You seem a natural in front of the camera. I totally love seeing your video and how you do things. Even though I do things a bit differently, I always take away a bit of knowledge from watching someone else and how they work. As always, I learn from you! Can't wait to see what you show us all next!
Renee
I love it! It's great to actually see and hear you:)

Fabulous tutorial, B! I can't ever seem to get my icing to the right consistency and have given up on it for awhile now. Maybe with all your tutorials I will get back to it :-)

You are adorable and just the way I imagined! And better than that Giada from Food Network - Her constant grinning gets on my LAST nerve!
Thank you so much for this! I always struggled knowing how much or not enough on adding water. I made cookies yesterday and the icing was the perfect consistency for flooding! Love it!!

I'm from Spain and I'm a newbie in the cookie decorating world (here a decorated cookie is something very rare). I'm a loyal reader of your blog and I love love this idea!
Thank you for sharing this, It will be very helpful to improve my technique :)
Thank you so much for posting your video!! I am a visual learner and to see someone do it and not just read it is VERY helpful! I can't wait to see more!

All i have to say is WOW, thank you so much for putting this together. I love cooking and baking but when it comes to making icuing and making cookies look this good, that is another world to me.
I was linked here from www.jugglingmotherhood.wordpress.com - am soooo excited to try this! I'm going to try and flood some gingerbread shaped cookies for my son's 2nd birthday tomorrow :) Thanks for the inspiration!
Another great tutorial! I see Food Network in your future. I've read Sweetopia for a while and she recommends using piping icing for flooding to save time mixing up new batches. Thoughts?
THANK YOU so much for the fabulous tutorial!! You were great and didn't look nervous at all. Good job!
