Besides meringue powder, food coloring and disposable icing bags, I always have food coloring pens on hand for cookie decorating.
Normally, I use them for small details on cookies, but here are a few my kiddo & I decorated with just the pens last week. They are really great for kids to use!
{Obviously, we are not artists!}
FooDoodler is generously giving away 3 sets of their Professional Series Fine Line FooDoodlers. Watch the video to find out how to enter!
Drawing will be held Wednesday, August 11th. There will be THREE winners! Good luck!

I'm not entering the contest but wanted to say I adorably cute your decorated cookies are. The soccer ball is great as is the golf scene and I love the swimmer!
I've never seen that brand of icing pen here in Canada yet. I just picked up AmeriColour pens a few weeks ago and love that their tip is so much finer than Wiltons. Tell Kiddo he did a super job on his share of the art work:)
Shoot, that first sentence should have read *how* adorably cute. Sorry....
I am a terrible cookie decorator. I have tried, but they just don't work out for me. Any video showing the basics are good for me. But it would be fun to see a video on adding cute figures to the cookies (love the swimming figure!!) and writing.
I really struggle with moving the cookies from the counter to the baking sheet. I always mess them up, maybe because they aren't cool enough?
Sugar cookies are my weakness, I never get them cooked right either. I would love to be able to make adorable things like you.
What a great vlog again!!!
I would love to learn how to pipe nice writings! any tips?? I have tried many times - still no success!
anddd... also would love to know how to add sanding sugar & custom made sanding sugar!
xoxo,
Kate

I would love to see a tutorial on how to apply the edible cake sheets. I've seen them used on cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. Or even one on how to use disco dust to make those creations sparkle especially with the holiday season creeping up upon us. Keep up the good work I love the great ideas handy tips!
Those are sweet, adorable cookies! I seem to have a low patience level when it comes to cookie decorating. so learning quick and easy ways to decorate cookies would be great.... like using these pens!
I wish you would stop saying that you are not an artist. Anyone who can do cookies as wonderfully cute and imaginative as you (and kiddo) is definitely an artist! Now, say it out loud... "I am an artist!"
There, that feels good right? Right!
I love how you decorated the cookies with the pens :)
I´ve tried the food colouring pen from wilton - but I think it was a little too old in the shop here.
Love your videos and blog :)
And yes look at all the cookies you have made and decorated - you definately are an artist :)
I don´t think I can participate on your give away since I live in Germany but good luck to everyone :) Have you tried out sugarveil on your cookies?
best whishes and keep up the great job
Thuri
I would LOVE to know how to best put two colours on a cookie without them bleeding. I remember a post with a dog cookie (featured on Rachel Ray) and was amazed at how the white and brown were not piped off.... HOW?!
Gret video. I always need improvement on my piping skills.
Mimi
Bridget,
I love all your videos but I would love to see a video that showed how to do small lettering or even a font like type on a cookie. I have never been able to figure out how to do it! Thanks so much!
Loving the new entry!!
I would love to see a entry on how to do the marbling in the icing... Have seen it done in pictures, but my technique must not be up to scratch!
Thanks!
I would love to see a video on how to pipe writing onto cookies, I am so terrible at that!
Any video for beginners is good for me. I just purchased some items last weekend so that I can try decorating some cookies myself.
I don't know if I would know how to use these at all, but I would love to!
Oh gosh, I love your blog. The video tutorials are great. Would LOVE to win one of the sets of markers. Thank you for offering such a great prize!
I would love to see a tutorial on making 3D cookies. Stacked cookies, cookies stacked into mini cake-shapes. I think that would be so fun!!
Thanks for a chance to win!! :)
Erin
Great video! It's such fun to see you Bridget! I enjoy all the videos, it would be hard to say what to do next.
I'd like to see some holiday cookies, maybe!
Thanks for the giveaway!
I would LOVE to try those pens!
~Liz
Another great video, Bridget! I'd like to see your techniques for writing out words with the icing...yours always look so perfect! Also, I'd like to SEE your technique for making the polka dots flush with the first layer of icing:)
Love these pens!
I'm fairly new to your website so I haven't seen what videos you have. I love to watch anything. I decorate cookies but with buttercream. I need to try royal icing for decorating. I just worry that it won't taste as good as buttercream. Thanks for the videos. I would love to win the pens.
I would love to see writing tips! My boys would LOVE to use these edible markers...oh, and so would I!
I'd love to see a video on different piping styles and how to make flowers and decorative borders out of icing:)
Those pens are so cool! I would love to have a set of those on hand.
I would love a video on how you did the edible images on your cookies. They looked awesome!
xo_Erin
I would love, love, love to see a tutorial on making vegan cookies and icing. My kiddo has egg/dairy/peanut allergies, so meringue powder is out of the question for me.
Hi Bridget, thanks for the chance of the foodoodler food color pins give away. What I would like to see a video on is sanding your cookies with the colorful sugars.
A video on making 3D cookies would be amazing!!! :D
Yes some tips on piping writing would be great I think.
Those markers look like a lot of fun. I have been experimenting with painting cookies lately, but I think the markers sound much easier!
I'd love to see a video of piping details (lettering, etc)... I seem to have issues with that lately!
Thanks for the wonderful giveaway. My daughter and I love to make decorated sugar cookies and have learned so much from watching your tutorials. Can't think of anything specific that I want help with. You have done a great job with your tutorials. Love & blessings from NC!
I absolutely love your videos! These pens look like so much fun! I had no idea they make such a thing. Please enter me in the drawing! ☺ As far as videos go, Maybe something showing different types of cookie cutters, and other tools. I am always amazed at how you use the tools to do things. It seems I often do things the hard way. Thanks again.
So cool! I would love to see a vblog on decorating with sanding sugar, accessorizing with fondant, i.e., flowers, writing, and packaging. Ok...I'll stop now!
I really enjoy the videos on University of Cookies. I would really like to see some more videos of some piping on cookies and any piping tips. I have been struggling with very small writing on my cookies--tips 1 and 2( I think the pens would help me with that). Thanks for all the great info.
I'd love to see a video on how to apply luster or pearl dust :)
If I win, I'm totally doing these as teacher gifts this year! If I don't win...I'm going to buy some and totally do these as teacher gifts this year!!
(ps - I LOVE the little swimmer!)
I love the note on the cookie. It is so cute and such a great idea.
amandarwest at gmaildotcom
Love this site! I'm a visual learner - totally can't get it by reading directions. I need someone to hold my hand and tell me step-by-step the way you guys do it!
So . . . here's what I want to see - you've covered the basics and now I want to put them to use by making my kids some Nerf cookies. Can you do that? Huh? Can you make an entire video about one cookie and decorate it to look like a Nerf bullet? I'd like it to be Nerf bullet-shaped. Have I mentioned I'm high-maintenance? Bossy too. And a control freak.
Obey me.
Awesome pens! I have only made royal icing once and it was such a mess. I'd like a video to see if your kitchen gets as messy as mine! LOL!
I love your work and thanks for sharing these techniques with everyone.i would love to how to write on cookie and some very basics of decorating....
I have never even heard of them, but I would love to try them. Yours are so cute! I would love to see a video on how to pipe lettering, I'm awful at it! kimmymay03@yahoo.com
Hmmm... know how you can buy a log of cookie dough and it has a picture in the middle, so when you cut the log into thin cookies and bake them, there is a picture? I'd love to see a video on how to make a homemade one :D Halloween is coming up. Lets make pumpkins! Hee hee ^_^ Thank you for hosting the contest :D
I would love to see a video on some Christmas cookie decorating ideas...I am not creative at all and need sort of a cheat sheet.
thanks for the marker video... very helpful! I can never get enough tips on flooding techniques...a video would be great!
I would love to see how you figure out how much of each color to make when preparing your royal icing. I usually end up with either WAY too much or just short of what I need. Is there any magic way to figure this out without wasting tons of icing (and hard work)? Also, I was also wondering how you go about layering. Like when there are different colors and layers to create a more 3D look to the image on the cookie?
Would love to win those amazing food coloring pens! Keep the awesome videos coming! I love them!
WOOT WOOT WOOT!!!
I would love to see videos on the baking process. My cookies never turn out right
I would love to see a video showing stenciling on cookies!
I would love to have a set of those pens!
I like to see the actual decorating a certain design. Like the tree frog cookies. I am more of a visual learner so it helps me see the techniques and motions that happens to create the amazing cookies yall do. :)
i would love to see any video yall can come up with! they are all very informative and a VERY big help!
Hi! I love your cookies! How fun! I would love to see more videos on how to decorate a giant cookie cake. I am still learning the basics and you seem to have awesome artistry skills!
Looks fun!! I think I want to learn how to make a good font (though I am sure it is something you get or dont). Looking at all the other cookies that are made.. how do you get the details to look exactly the same (projector or eye balling it)
I loved the tutorial on packing cookies but I would love to see one on packing large orders, 50 cookies or more. I struggle with this. Thanks!!!
I'd love to see a video on how to do some awesome piping techniques! I guess I should get a practice book, and well, practice! I plan on making some cookies for a birthday party at the end of this month, and your tier cake cookies gave me a great idea!
I love the idea of these pens, especially for the detail work! As far as things I'd like to see, I'm enjoying seeing things I didn't know I wanted to see! I've just really started to do baking/decorating, and so I'm learning lots right now, everything is new and exciting, and motivates me to try something new to me!
Hmm...I'd like to see a post actually showing you cutting out cookies...what's your technique for making the process go as smoothly - and quickly - as possible? I really like Gail (OTC)'s "between the sheets" method, but what does everybody else do?
Oh, or a video on how to combine two shapes so that there's no seams or bulges....
I love the video tutorials! I would like to see a video on baking the cookies. When do you know they are ready to be taken out of the oven?
I just love this site. I started decorating cookies about a year ago. There are some things that I've been doing the hard way but thanks to your videos, not any more!
I haven't done too much decorating with the food coloring pens but would love to get my hands on a set. Looks like fun!
I'd love to see more videos of how to make specific cookie designs, like the tree frog one :3 I have enjoyed watching all the videos here though so far!
I let my boys (4y and 20m) decorate white cookies for Father's Day. They loved making cookies and DAD thought it was great too! I love the idea of 3D cookies and stenciling for future vlogs. I love your site and visit often. I get sooo happy when I see something new. I've been doing cookies for 5 years now, but still learn something new all the time! Thanks Bridget...I love your cute curly hair BTW!
I'd like to see a tutorial on making your own cookie stencils- cookies made without a cookie cutter
What a neat give away! Decorated sugar cookies are not my forte so this site is awesome! Any tuts about how to bake and decorate are appreciated!
So fun! I think the pens are a great idea for adding detail.
I would love to see a video on what you do to make a shape for a cookie that you don't have a cookie cutter for.
Oh I would love to win this giveaway. I'm just starting out with cookie decorating and have a ton to learn and your videos help out so much.
I know in previous videos you've shared how to make royal icing but I was wondering if you could go over again how to get the consistency just right. I struggle with getting the consistency right for the piping on of the border and then the flooding consistency. I'm also never sure how much icing to make. I also get frustrated with how much of a mess I end up making with everything and would love to figure out how to keep things as organized as possible. Thanks so much for all your help!
I just love all the cookies you decorate. I try to outline but they are nothing compared to yours. It seems my flooding is too thick. I am thinking about using the bottles but they seem harder to hold. What is your thought?
I would like to learn to add sparkling sugar to piping without making a mess! I would also like to improve my writing in royal icing.
Would have so much fun with this! The ideas are endless!
Beth
I would love to see a tutorial on how to do any cookie basic stuff.
I would love to see a video on stenciling on cookies. I've tried it and it wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be!
Thanks for all the info!
Tutorial on how to make sugar cookie.
Love the idea for the teachers gift!
I would love to see how to add the colored sugar details to the cookie.
Your videos are so helpful! I am going to repeat what a few others have already said- I would like to see a video on lettering and writing- I am sooooo bad at it and would love a few tips. Thanks!
I would love to win the food coloing pens, and I would love to learn how to write on cookies better! The Polka Dot Zebra on Flikr has the best cookie writing I have ever seen! Maybe you could find her and get her to post a tutorial:)
Love, love, love your blog and University of Cookie!!! What an ingenious idea presenting these video tutorials by such talented cookie artists. I think your work, as well as that of your fellow "professors", totally makes the grade!!
I currently use Americolor pens. I think they are wonderful, but I would love to try these FooDoodlers!
By the way, kiddo is pretty adept at cookie decorating! I guess he takes after his mom!
I would like to know what you do when you can't find a cookie cutter that is the shape you want. Have you ever made your own? If you have, how?
Ooops!! Forgot to state that I would like to see a tutorial on cookie stenciling. I've stenciled some on cookies before, but can't seem to get comfortable with it.
Its really a good idea to use these to decorate cookies, specially if we can let our kids participate...I would love to see a video about writting on cookies...
Tks!
Rosilet
I would love to see a video on how you spread the flood icing on the cookie.
I'd like to see a video of how to arrange a cookie bouquet.
I love those pens but I have the sad little craft store ones so I'd love to try this new brand. We have a lot of fun making "conversation hearts" with them. And the cookie hearts taste way better than the -- and I use this word loosely -- candy.
My suggestion for a video is going to sound silly, but could you do one on bubble popping? I've watched the video where you talk about only getting the large ones, but I'd love to see which ones I should aim for. Thanks for a great site!
Those looks like so much fun. My 15 yo daughter and I like to follow your blog and use your cookie decorating tips and tutorials. Thanks so much.
I would like to know how to make the cookies so perfect. I seem to either make them too thin and they get too hard or too thick. There's got to be a way to get an even width. I am pretty new to this so this is probably a stupid question. Sorry.
I'm not very good at baking cookies lol- I'm more of a cupcake maker, myself. I wonder, could you use these on a cake, though? With fondant, that is, because I make cakes frequently as well. Anyhow, this is probably kind of random but I would like to see a video of people EATING your cookies!! I love the decorations and that look so tasty and I just think it would be neat to see how people react to them :)
Just found your blog! Love the cookies you do! I would love to win those pens. I have a little tiny business called The Occasional Cookie and I do stuff out of my home, but I am terrible at baking sugar cookies! I would love a great tutorial about some sugar cookie ideas. I usually make just different types of cookies that don't involve decorating - even though they taste great and are pretty in their own right, I would love to be able to do wedding favors or things like that to sell if I could get some good advice! Thanks!
oh my goodness, oh my goodness! my sister has started my onto your blog for inspiration & jealousy;) she has been taking a class & 'trying' to teah me what she has learned so I love any and all the help with videos I can get. these would be great for someone like me who is just learning because the ones I have tried don't have a fine tip and I get globs for eyes etc:(
thank you for the opportunity and all of your helpful tips, hints & tricks!
I totally agree with some of the other commenters on videos for basic decorating techniques! Also maybe some videos on design?
Thanks for the contest! Those pens look like lots of fun!!
I've been wanting to try food coloring pens for a long time but haven't seen any at any of the store near me!
These look so fun! I am no good at decorating cookies, but this seems like a good place to start.
I am so new at cookie decorating that anything you show is a great help. Showing the basics as well as some advanced ideas are a great help. Thank you!
I enjoyed the video of how to use the pens. I have been wanting to try these pens for awhile but never knew how to use them. A video of special tips and tricks would be nice. Since I have never used these pens all videos would be helpful to me. I love the cookies you and your kiddo designed because they are original looking which makes them more personal.
I would love a tutorial on multiple uses for a cookie cutter, like a heart cutter upside down could be a santa head. Or where you get your inspiration for a design.
AngieN24
I'd love to try this with my 8 yo grand daughter and would love a video showing children how they can do this... tips, hints ideas. They'd make great gifts for our family's handmade Christmas presents!
I love making sugar cookies with royal icing. The only problem I have is that sometimes the meringue powder doesnt dissolve completely and it clogs up the piping tip - nothing is more frustrating!!! Any advice? Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
It was probably mentioned, but I'd like to see a post on how to make your cookie cutters/stencils. I know some people freehand the designs and some use the KopyKake, but do you think those kid's art projectors could work as a template for detailing?
I work with kids and above all with toddlers and I always wanted to make animal cookies. I am terrible at drawing so I'm always looking around for tutorial on how to make stylized but still cute animal cookies. That's what I would love to see
I would love to enter this giveway! Those food pens look so useful!I think a video on how to make different sculptures out of multiple cookies would be really cool!
I would love to enter this giveway! Those food pens look so useful!I think a video on how to make different sculptures out of multiple cookies would be really cool!
Love the site and think the giveaway is a great opportunity to try something that could really make a huge difference in decorating options!
I would like to see a video on cookie organization. Sounds weird, I bet, but Im interested to see how other people organize their pantries and cookie supplies. I love the techniques and tips and tricks, sure, but I am ALWAYS looking for better ways to store and organize my ever growing supply of tools and ingredients!
Thanks for a wonderful site!
I would really like to see more videos on piping and monogramming items, please!
Love this site!
Adorable cookies! I desperately need help on how to nicely write on my cookies. My letters are uneven and oddly shaped and just a mess.
I just found this website and think I'm having heart palpitations of excitement! I've been stalking...following awesome Amanda for quite awhile and attempting to copycat her amazing sugar cookies!
I would love to see a video on the most recommended products for frosting cookies. Wilton? Other? Maybe you already have a video on this, too. Sorry...I'll check! Thanks for such a sugary sweet site!
i thought this video was awesome and would love to win a set of these pens and what more fun than doodling on cookies!love them!
I'd love to see video tutorials of anything as I'm a newbie! I could really use those pens. ;) Glad I found your site.
I would love to win these! I was planning on ordering some soon. Keep up the videos and pictures!
Love your site! Have you ever tried using rubber stamps (new, of course) and food coloring to decorate a cookie? Would that even work, I wonder...
I would love to see these work on a cake if that is possible, this way of dcoracting cookies might even be foolproofenough that I cannot mess it upo lol
aWhat fun. Your cookies look great. I would like to see a video on how to use luster dust. It looks so pretty, but I'm clueless. Thanks for the giveaway!
Tips on piping fine details and where you purchase all the goodies you need for cookie creating! Love your blog...thanks!!
Hi, great giveaway and seriously adorable cookies you and kiddo made!! Very fun... as with others, piping is the problem.. I would love videos on techniques... thanks
What a great idea and a huge shortcut to decorating cookies! This is a must to have! Thanks for taking the time to show us the possibilities and thanks to the vendor for providing a few for the drawings.
BTW, where do you acquire the decorating pens?
I always seem to have trouble with moving the cookie dough after cutting the shape out to the baking pan. They either stick to the cutting board regardless of the amount of flour I put on it or they lose their shape. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? Thanks a lot=)!!
I'd love to see a video of wet on wet, using the toothick to spread. I just can't seem to match the iconic christmas cookies I saw a few years back.
I love your site. I would like to see a video on piping with glace. I typically use glace over RI, as my family prefers the taste. It is just much harder to work with. :)
Love the blog and would love to try those pens! I would like to see something on how to make cookies that actually retain their shape, not spread out and lose their shape after cooking! I have tried, but the ones that seem to work taste more like shortbread than sugar cookie!
Hi Bridget,
I love your tutorials and your work, thank you very much for sharing with us.
I'm not sure if I can enter the contest since I'm in Canada but I'll try anyways. I would like to see a video on flooding with several icing colors without outlining first
Many thanks
I would like to see a video on using sanding sugar and disco dust. I have wanted to try it but am not sure if there is a certain way I should go about it.
These look wonderful! I'd love to see a video showcasing your all-time favorite must-haves for the cookie decorator...favorite piping tips, favorite place to buy cookie cutters and so on :)
I would love to see a video on using edible pictures. I know you did them on your Bake@350 blog...I just want to see you do it!
I would love to give these markers a try!
I would like to see a video about how your organize everything and how you plan your time when doing an order or event.
I'd love to learn more about stenciling cookies - I've been too intimidated to try it myself!
How to get from counter to cookie sheet! HELP! :)
Yay! what a fun giveaway. I really need to practice my cookie writing and would love tips for piping words on to cookies.
Several of these videos have changed my way of making cookies! I'm still having issues with little tips of royal icing at the ends of lines I pipe. Is there a way to get a smooth line finish?
I want to thank you for your wonderful videos. I have learned so much. One thing I would like to see is a bit more detail using the piping bags- like writing and how you hold the bag to put on details and shapes.
Thanks.
Thank you for all the super fun posts!! I would like to see a tutorial on different piping styles--there are many videos on piping on cakes, but I'd like to see them applied to smaller contexts...like cookies!!
I really love all of your videos and your website. I've never made royal icing but you have really made me want to try it. I wouldn't mind seeing themed weeks, like food shaped week (food shaped cookies make me giggle- I don't know why) or Holiday themed weeks. Year after year I try to decorate Christmas cookies and year after year I fail. If I could get some pointers a month or two in advance, that would be great!
I would love to see the video and win the pens. I bought Wilton marker and it was too thick..difficult to use on cake or cookies.
Great vid! I'd loved to see your setup, and how you break up the entire process over days!
I would love to see what you do with cookies that have flood icing that spilled over the sides. Do you just eat them or can they be "fixed". Thanks,
Carole
I love the idea of food coloring pens...I will definitely have to give them a try.
Your blogs have been an amazing inspiration and help for me! Thanks!
I would love to see a video about how to add something on top of your flodd icing without it pooling and becoming uneven. I made some shamrocks on parchment paper and let them dry then dropped them on wet flood icing, but it didn't turn out as nicely as I had hoped!
Any and all videos really are a help for me, though!
I love all of your videos. I would like to see a video describing how to print edible images on cookies. Thanks!
Oh!! How fun. I'd love to win these markers. I'm new to your blog and have just taken a quick peek around. It seems like you have the basics covered as far as info/videos... maybe a video on how to bake/make these cookies without gaining any weight!! ;-)
I am loving this site and all your videos! I would like to see a video on making the frosting a piping consistency. Mine is usually takes me a few tries. Also, I'd love to see how you do your beautiful lettering on the cookies.
I would like to see a post about using glitter, disco dust and sanding sugar. Every time I use these items I make a huge mess and the results aren't what I wanted.
Thanks for the chance to win :)
I would like to know how you get a clean, round bloop of icing on a cookie, and if you can use chocolate and coloured chocolate melts successfully on cookies, and if so, can you make the chocolate 'shiny' like the chocolate you would buy in a store?
Wow, those are amazing :) I am in Canada, so I am not sure if I can qualify to win, but I will take that chance anyways ;) The most creative cookie decorating I ever did was make easter baskets out of sugar cookies, by stacking the crinkly round cookies with icing mortar and cutting holes in the top ones for candy eggs to go in, and using a half a cookie sideways as the basket handle. I have very little experience with royal icing, but these would be great when my cousins bring over their much older than my 1 year old children and I have nothing but baby toys for them, they would love it!
these pens are amazing, greatly simplify the job! the video is great do not think we need to see more! I would love to have some!
I would love to learn to decorate cookies as beautifully as you do, but first I need to learn how to make the actual cookie turn out good! I can't seem to get that step perfected. A video of the cookie process would be great!
I would love to see a video on "photo cookies" I have an edible printer I use for cake decorating. I love University of Cookie!
Great decorating with the pens! Ideas for videos: icing consistency, how to flood without overflowing, 3D cookies
Very cute! I would love to see a video on piping. Thanks so much.
Fondant tutorial with imbossing... painted fondant... I am just too impatient for the royal to dry....LOL
Hi, hope it's OK to contact you here. We would love to include your blog on our giveaway search engine: Giveaway Scout (http://www.giveawayscout.com). Have a look and if interested, use our online form to add your blog (http://www.giveawayscout.com/addblog/ ). thanks, Josh
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your talents. I've given you an award. You can view it here: http://nogginsandnonsense.blogspot.com/2010/08/versatile-blogger-award.html
I love the idea of these cookies for gifts! This week I made cookies for my husbands birthday and my royal icing didn't get hard it stayed a little tacky. What do you think causes this to happen?
Thanks
Wondering who won?
Your cookies are Very Artistic! ...I would love to see a video on blending or overlapping food coloring pens. Is there such a thing where you can mix two or more color pens a receive a marbelized look? a collage look effect? If not, then maybe a video on how to place edible photographs on cookies. Thank you! :)
Hi, I would love another video on rolling out cookie dough. I really struggle getting all my cookies the same thickness. I would love a set of these pens. . .thanks for the contest!
